Philosophy
Most of us learned early on to judge our creative work before we' ve even begun. The inner critic speaks louder than intuition. We compare ourselves to others, to impossible standards, to a fantasy of what "real " art looks like. My teaching practice is about creating a space where that critical voice can be set aside — not permanently, but long enough for you to remember what it feels like to make something without judgment. These workshops are not about technique first, though technique matters. They 're about reconnection: to your own creative impulses, to the pleasure of making, to the part of you that knows what wants to emerge before the rational mind gets involved.

Teaching
Exploring Your Inner Artist is based on the premise that we each have within us a huge reservoir of innate, untapped creativity. Our problem is not one of ability, but of courage.
Created and taught by Susie, this art course is designed to help participants move beyond their inner critic and reconnect with their innate creativity.
Working across a wide range of genres — from portraiture and still life to landscape, collage and beyond — the course encourages participants to explore, experiment and develop their own creative voice.
The course is currently taught during term at Hawthorn Artist Society (HAS). Susie is also available to lead individual workshops for those looking for a more personal creative experience.
